The topic of politics is never an unbiased one in the world of Jyotiṣa, or any subject of study. So also Jyotiṣa need to make it a point to avoid bias within the same topic. Therefore as a disclaimer, before delving into the analysis below, understand that the analysis is not fueled by a personal agenda or political view. Living in Denmark, every political decision or view arising in the USA compared to Denmark’s political scene is far on the conservative-right. As a recent example, a Danish newspaper comparing the most popular far-left American politician, Bernie Sanders, to current Danish political views, equalled Sanders’ views to those of the far-right Nationalist party in Denmark. Crossing the Atlantic is indeed akin to treading into a different political universe for Danes and Scandinavians alike.
Nevertheless, as Jyotiṣa, it is our duty to examine the charts of influential rulers, as their charts mark as an indicator for the karmas to be experienced by the country. Given that the future solar eclipse, on the 21st of August, occurs directly upon the Lagna of Donald Trump, this marks an important turning point in his destiny, which will affect the entire USA and its dependents.
Global Eclipse effects
The Total Solar eclipse occurs on the 21st of August 2017 and will be visible across the entire USA1. This occurrence is particularly rare in that the last time a Total Solar eclipse was visible solely in the USA and no other place, was the year 19182. The greatest point of the eclipse will occur over the state of Kentucky3, which is among the states pushing for the removal of Confederate civil-war statues. A topic which has fueled protests and violence from the extreme-right of politics4 and recently claimed a human life during protest-clashes.
Eclipses affect the entire world and do so depending on multiple factors as explained in Bṛhat Samhita, by Sage Varahamihira5.
Before we continue, it is necessary to thank Pt. Sanjay Rath6 for his tireless elaborations and explanations of the impact of eclipses7.
Bṛhat Samhita counts at least thirteen different ways of interpreting the effects of the eclipse. These are 1) parva, 2) sandhya, 3) saptayama, 4) ayana, 5) aṣṭadiga, 6) rāśi, 7) graha yuti, 8) lekhādi, 9) śakuna, 10) grahadeśa, 11) chandramāsa, 12) moksā, 13) somagrahādi. Of these the 1st, i.e. parva depends on the number of eclipses since the beginning of creation, and does not depend on the nature of the eclipse itself. Among the remaining, the 2) Sandhya, 3) Saptayama, 4) ayana, 6) Rāśi, 7) Graha Yuti, 8) Lekhādi, 9) śakuna, 10) grahadeśa, 11) chandramāsa, 12) mokṣa and 13) somagrahādi, are used in mundane and birth chart interpretation. Among these 2) Sandhya, 6) rāśi, 7) grahayuti, and 13) somagrahādi are used in birth charts, and the remaining are not used in birth charts.
Among those principles used, the 2) sandhya and 3) somagrahādi, depend on another chart for reference, whether a chart of the country’s inauguration, a muhurta chart or a birth chart. The rest do not. Here the term sandhya refers to the Lagna or seventh house, as somagrahādi refers to the occurrence of the solar eclipse before or after the lunar. These two topics have been covered in this write-up: Grahana and Pata Gochara.
In this write-up the topics of 1) parva, 4) ayana, 9) śakuna, 10) grahadeśa, 11) chandramāsa & 12) mokṣa will not be covered.
For practical reasons, it is appropriate to analyse the principles in an order different from that given above.
- For mundane charts: lekhādi, saptayama, rāśi and grahayuti and sandhya.
- For birth charts: somagrahādi, rāśi, grahayuti and sandhya.
For both mundane charts and birth charts, this is most useful when comparing to upcoming daśās, especially of a malignant nature8. Herein we will begin with the mundane chart analysis.
Eclipse type (lekhādi)
Ten different types of eclipses occur9, of which 2 can be classified as Total Eclipses10. These are either Aghrāta (smelting/transparent) or Grasana (swallowing/enveloping). The upcoming eclipse belongs to the Grasana category. The effects are given as:
Thriving kings will have their growth halted and will be hurt/injured, as will the thriving countries11.
These effects are intended upon the countries wherein the Eclipse occurs, which will thus affect the governance of the USA. This specifically affects the wealth and growth of the country as well.
How are resources allocated? (saptayama)
Dividing the day or night span into seven distinct parts, we can ascertain which parts of humanity are affected by the eclipse. These affect the entire globe, and thus depending on your location, one of the seven groups will be affected. These seven groups are allotted depending on their dependencies. Herein those among the 7 parts which occur during the ‘start’ of the eclipse will suffer, during the ‘middle/maximum’ will be destroyed, and during the ‘end’ will benefit. This should be calculated for the capitols of countries or states to know the fates for the entire country/state.
For Washington, DC, the Eclipse begins at 11:47, is most at 14:25 and ends at 17:04.
The sunrise for Washington, DC on the 21st of August, is 6:27, and the sunset occurs at 19:54. The entire day-duration is thus 19:54-6:27 = 13 hrs, 27 mins. Dividing this figure into 7 equal portions we get each duration being 1hr, 55 mins. We can thus make a table of the 7 portions as follows:
The times given are the beginning times of the Yama, or portion. Herein the light-blue portion indicates the beginning of the eclipse, the grey is the middle, and the orange is the end.
It is evident that artist, cleaners, foreign visitors and ministers will be suffering for the next six months. The animals depending on the plant kingdom, harems, ministers (of culture and entertainment), merchants and businessmen, will suffer utter ruin during this time. Finally, women and śūdras (builders/carpenters?) will benefit in the USA.
Who is affected? (rāśī & graha)
The Rāśi of the eclipse implies the position of the Sun and Moon during the eclipse. A solar eclipse implies a conjunction between the Sun, Moon and one of the nodes, however mere proximity to one of the nodes is enough, and thus they may be separated by signs, as is evident on this occasion.
In this given scenario, the Sun and Moon are joined in the sign of Leo. The effects are:
Destruction to the entire tribes of hunters, kings, and those who lord over other human beings, as well as forest dwellers12.
Therefore all professions indicated by the sign of Leo are affected herein, implying all government subjects including the President and his secretaries, congressmen and senators, etc. With Mercury joined this eclipse certain resources are also affected, herein:
High demand and scarcity of ghee and oils, as well as suffering to kings13.
Mercury indicates the inheritor of the throne, and thus eclipses involving the same are highly negative for the entire political legacy.
Connecting the Rāśi and Graha in this context, we may add that those politicians or government subjects who will suffer the most from the eclipse are those whose Lagna either joins Leo or Aquarius (Mercury Graha Dṛṣṭi), or those having important planets or combinations in these signs.
Therefore, we are to expect that the next six months will be extremely difficult for individuals within the sphere of governance, especially those with Leo or Aquarius ascendants.
Specific impact on the area (Sandhyā)
By Sandhyā implies rising and setting. Herein this indicates the first or seventh house during an eclipse or the first or seventh house from a mundane or birth chart.
W.r.t. the eclipse chart, the Lagna during the eclipse is Scorpio, and the Sun and Moon occupy the tenth house in Leo. This implies that the USA will have the biggest impact of the eclipse upon its administrators, governing bodies and individuals. We associate the tenth house of the mundane chart with the incumbent of the nation, e.g., in this case, the current ruling Republican party and the President Donald J. Trump. These individuals would suffer the greatest impact of the eclipse within the country, and thus we may infer that not all political bodies within the nation will suffer, only those in the ruling seat, and have important connections to Leo and Aquarius in their chart.
The chart also shows that Saturn and Rāhu are in Māraṇa Kāraka Sthāna. These being the lords of the fourth and third houses show the opposition (third lord) suffering, as well as the territory of the USA (fourth lord). Saturn in Scorpio gives the incentive of battle to augment this, whilst the seventh lord Venus, joined Mars, further encourages this. Fortunately, Mars being debilitated and joined a watery planet will not allow a full-scale battle, but will get the entire world involved, due to the ninth house conjunction. Mars and Rāhu joined is terrible for the enemy, indicated by sixth lord Mars, suggesting a swift and devastating defeat of a small enemy without the use of weapons. The next six months show portends for a small verbal and financial at an international level involving another country.
At the time of making this write-up, threats of military-assault have appeared between North-Korea and the USA, the aftermath seems to come to pass over the next six months.
Remedies
The Devatā worshipped during the Solar Eclipse is the one who removes the effects of the eclipse. Śrī Dakṣiṇamūrti is worshipped, representing the Guru who removes all ignorance in the soul. To ward off the negatives this eclipse has on government workers, governance and the stability of the nation, pūja and japa for Śrī Dakṣiṇamūrti during the eclipse can be committed to, as well as fasting throughout the eclipse day on the 21st of August.
The next step in examining these eclipse-effects are to analyse the chart of the political heads of the USA, of which the President Donald J Trump, would be paramount to examine.
