23 syllable mantra: ॐ नमो भगवते बलिवामनाय सर्वापत्ति विनाशनाय श्रीं। om namo bhagavate balivāmanāya sarvāpatti vināśanāya śrīṁ|
वाङ्मुनिर्जगती चन्दो देवता बलिवामनः॥
vāṅmunirjagatī cando devatā balivāmanaḥ ||
Translation: Vāc ṛṣi, Jagatichandaḥ and Bali-Vāmana Devatā are the parts of the Ṛṣyadi nyāsa.
पदैः षड्भिः षडङ्गानि शेषं पूर्ववदीरितम्॥ ३८९॥
padaiḥ ṣaḍbhiḥ ṣaḍaṅgāni śeṣaṁ pūrvavadīritam || 389 ||
Translation: The six pada of the mantra are the six limbs [for nyāsa] as indicated earlier.
Commentary: This requires some work wherein in the ślokas 387-388 given above, the text has indicated a division of the mantra into various portions or divisions. The only parts of the mantra which are clearly distinguished from the rest are the last four words of the mantra [balivāmanāya sarvāpatti vināśanāya śrīṁ]. This leaves the initial three words [om namo bhagavate] to be divided into two portions or pada. In all the preceding mantras the word bhagavate has consistently been given its own portion or division. We shall do the same herein and thus we get the following six limbs of the mantra:
- om namo
- bhagavate
- balivāmanāya
- sarvāpatti
- vināśanāya
- śrīṁ
These thus become the six parts of the mantra for nyāsa.
